20 Trailblazers Are Leading The Way In Double Pushchair

Which Lightweight Double Pushchair Should You Buy?

It's easy to move around in the lightweight double pushchair particularly if you have children of different age groups. They are easy to fold, steer and carry up and down the steps.

This City Mini GT2 features side-by-side seating with plenty of legroom. It also has adjustable reclining, large UPF 50+ canopy, and windows that peek out. It also has a clever frame that expands widthways to take a second seat and a compatible car seat(s).

Side-by-Side

The majority of the lightweight double pushchairs that we tested were side-by-side models. These are best for children who can stand up without assistance, as they lack car seat compatibility. The Thule Urban Glide 2 Double, and Baby Trend Sit 'N Stand Double, are both excellent options. They offer recline adjustments for both seats, a large canopy, and padded 5-point safety harnesses. They're also easy to move despite their bigger footprint, and are ideal for parents worried about fitting into doorways.

The Cybex Duet pushchair is unique because it features a unique frame that can be expanded to accommodate an additional child seat. This makes it lighter than other pushchairs that are side-by-side. This means it can fit through doors that are standard and is easy to maneuver on public transport. It also doubles as a jogger which is great if you want to use it in conjunction with baby carriers or a car seat. It's also available in a range of fun colors.

The UPPAbaby Vista v2 double is another excellent lightweight side-by-side double. It offers even more customization thanks to a modular frame. It features a clever design that allows you to transform it into a single buggy or a double with the addition of 2 carrycots or car seats (it can even take twins). It's a fantastic and practical choice for families with growing children, and the UPPAbaby also makes one of the lightest and most stylish umbrella strollers available.

Try the egg2 that folds down to the size and weight of a tiny suitcase. It can be used as a single or double by adding 2 carrycots or infant car seats and our home testers were awed by how simple and sleek it was to carry even when loaded with kids.

Side-by-side lightweight double pushchairs aren't 100% foolproof, howeverIf your children are at the same age or at the same stage, they might still argue over who is allowed to ride in which seat. And if they're at different heights, a tandem model could be more suitable for them since it will allow them to face each other.

Tandem

While side-byside models might be more appropriate for siblings who are the same age tandem pushchairs that are lightweight have their own charms. Some can accommodate a larger car seat and others have Reversible seats. Others even have an additional carrycot or reclined seat that can be flipped in the middle. They tend to be more spacious and easy to get in and out of the baskets, though they tend to be smaller than the ones on single buggies. Many feature larger canopies as well as peekaboo windows, and even cushioned leg cushions.

The iCandy Peach tandem is another good example of a lightweight tandem that provides excellent value. The fabric is a little less luxurious than our other top-rated tandems, but it looks and feels great and is user-friendly. Its one-handed folding is impressive. Even though it requires some time to master, Kirstie from our Lab described it as "genius". The carrycot can't be folded while it is attached. However, the process to attach and remove the carrycot is simple and quick.

Tandem double pushchairs are light and lightweight. They generally make more precise turns than side-by-side models however, they can be more difficult to drive over bumps and uneven surfaces. They can also be slower to accelerate and more heavy to move. This puts strain on your back.

Another option is a convertible double buggy which is initially a single and then you can add adapters to make it into a double. These can include an additional seat or carrycot on the front or children can be seated side-byside. Some of them also have the option to add a buggy board, which can help an older child keep up with a younger sibling.

The Uppababy Vista V2 is a good example of a convertible because it can also be converted into a twin pram by the purchase of additional cocoons (PS59 each) which create a lay-flat area for infants. They can be joined or placed in a row. You can also use the car seat that came with the pushchair in the event that it is compatible. These buggies with dual-use capabilities are made of quality materials and can be used for many years without showing any wear. This means they have an excellent resale value.

Single-to-Double

For families who love the outdoors and are looking to upgrade from a single stroller, this light double buggy turns into a jogger thanks to an impressive kit that comes with air-filled tyres, as well as all-wheel suspension. It can also handle rough terrain well and is a tandem triple is ideal for twins or children of various ages. It's also a good option for parents looking for a stylish design that's as sleek as a single and comes in a variety of fabric colours.

We loved the way that this iCandy model folds down with just one hand, making it very easy to master. And although it's heavier than other single-to-double pushchairs in this review, our home tester Karolina stated that it feels very maneuverable - even with two toddlers and a carrycot inside.

You can purchase add-ons such as the Roma Gemini Carrycots (PS100) that are ideal for infants. The seats are comfortable for toddlers with excellent headrests and lumbar support. And there are many options for recline, with the front seat adjusting to various positions, and the rear seat having a recline option.

The biggest drawback of this kind of buggy is that it tends to be larger overall than doubles that are side-by-side, which makes it harder to get through doorways and can be tricky to manoeuvre up and down kerbs. The wheels and suspension of these models tend to be able to deal with surfaces that are paved. They're also lighter than most side-by-sides and, therefore, you can get a lot of storage. These strollers can be difficult to maneuver around supermarkets with narrow aisles and they may struggle to carry a large amount. Although it's much easier to turn the stroller on a narrow, curving path, this can be a challenge. Some are also more easy to turn than others, with the Thule Urban Glide 2 Double and Baby Trend Sit N' Stand Double, for example.

Convertible

The great thing about convertible double pushchairs is the ability to adapt to a family's changing needs. Often, they start as single buggies and have adapters that allow you to include a second child's seat, a carrycot, or (in certain instances) the car seat to the frame. Some are able to be converted to a single one when your older child starts to walk or prefers to ride buggyboards.

One of the lightest  double stroller s on our list, this stylish tri-fold model is able to hold children up to 40 lbs each. It comes with an easy-to-use basket between the seats to store things. The home testers loved the spacious canopy that has windows that can be seen from the outside, multi-position reclining seats and front and rear suspension for smoother rides on rough terrain. It also comes with a handy cup holder for the parent as well as an ample, easily accessible basket. However, they pointed out that the seats' backs have pockets that are not big enough to accommodate anything more than a phone and keys.

This high-end, lightweight side-by-side is available in more than 20 models. It also comes with a second chair and carrycot. It features a high-profile steering handlebar, front and rear suspensions to smooth rough terrain and an ultra-compact fold that stands up on its own with straps that make it easy to transportation, and seven-inch front wheel with swivel locks as well as ten-inch back wheels with suspensions to ensure more comfortable riding. The only downside is that you will need to purchase an additional car seat or baby carrier.

This multi-functional tandem is the top choice of our home testers due to the fact that it is easy to maneuver and comes with a large basket for shopping that is accessible from both seats when in the parent-facing positions. It is a breeze to maneuver due to its light weight (about the equivalent of some single pushchairs). Many have praised the clever way it attaches the second seat or riding board at the back. Parents also liked the fact that it can accommodate infant car seats and carriers from various brands, including some that don't normally fit into other double buggies.
